Amenities
Wheat Street Towers is not just downtown living - it’s a community, located in the heart of a globally recognized community with a rich culturally significant history. Best known as the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the bedrock of civil rights.
The Benoit Group’s (TBG) partnership with the historic Wheat Street Charitable Foundation (WSCF) is a real estate deal of both significance and impact. TBG is committed to improving the lives of seniors who’ve lived in this community for most, if not all of their lives.
TBG’s dedication to this community goes beyond the brick and mortar structures, their impact is reflected in the preservation, rehabilitation, quality design, access, and affordability of Wheat Street Towers without compromising amenities and architectural aesthetics.
Highlights of Wheat Street Towers include, 208 unit high rise of studio and one bedroom apartment homes, controlled access buildings, cyber cafe, state of the art fitness center, community room for activities and community shuttle bus transportation.
TBG’s innovative approach to creative financing allowed them to preserve this building that was nearly inhabitable. They were also able to strategically keep the seniors from being displaced from the downtown corridor while maintaining affordable rents.
Despite the many wonderful things that technology and the internet offer, some older adults may find it intimidating to jump online. Wheat Street Tower’s cyber cafe provides residents with classes and tips to surf and shop online freely.
Maintaining an optimal level of wellness is absolutely crucial to live a higher quality life. Regular exercise can help older adults stay independent. Residents have access to a state of the art fitness center to ensure balanced health and wellness activities.
The towers community room is designed to offer residents a variety of activities such as arts and crafts classes, computer classes, line dancing, inspirational dancing, and health and wellness classes.
The nostalgia of Atlanta and Wheat Street Baptist Church in one destination at the highest point of Wheat Street Towers offers a great place for residents to relax, entertain guests or read their favorite book.
Wheat Street
The largest, non-profit land owner located within the Auburn Avenue Historic District. "Wheat Street Towers continues to stand as a symbol of our commitment to the gospel in that we are providing housing for those in need. This renovation is a symbol of our revival as a partner in the revitalization of Auburn Avenue. We are here to stay and we plan to be a central player in the future of this historic part of our city," said Dr. Ralph Basui Watkins, Interim Pastor, of Wheat Street Baptist Church.
This project represents an opportunity for us to continue fulfilling our organization’s mission of service to the community, and we have additional goals and aspirations to continue to reinvest in this historic corridor.
